Ayurvedic Management of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
The Department of Prasoothitantra and Striroga, Government Ayurveda College Hospital for Women and Children, Poojappura, initiated a project in July 2019 to assess the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatment in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). A total of 33 patients were enrolled, of which 28 completed inpatient management. The project was supported with a fund of ₹3,25,000.
Women aged 20–38 years diagnosed with RPL were selected and treated using a holistic Ayurvedic approach focusing on Beejashudhi and prevention of Garbhapatana. The treatment included therapies such as Udwartana, Snehapana, Abhyanga, Sweda, Virechana, Yogavasti, and Uttaravasti, followed by internal medications. Male partners were also treated to ensure comprehensive care.
Out of the 28 patients, 15 conceived and 12 delivered healthy babies, while 3 had first-trimester abortions, resulting in a success rate of 46.15%. Patients were regularly followed up, and outcomes were documented.
This initiative highlights a hormone-free, cost-effective, and holistic Ayurvedic protocol integrating classical therapies, offering a promising alternative approach for managing recurrent pregnancy loss.
