Initiatives of DCD
- Operation AMRITH (ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE INTERVENTION FOR TOTAL HEALTH) : For the effective implementation of preventing the sale of antibiotics without prescription. A reduction of 1000 crore in the sale of antibiotics was observed in Kerala.
- Packaging Regulations: Antibiotics will now be required to be sold in blue envelopes in Kerala. To curb the unscientific and excessive use of antibiotics. This measure serves to differentiate antibiotics from other medications and is part of the ongoing ROAR (RAGE ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE).
- Operation Vetbiotics: This initiative was launched to tackle sale of adulterated veterinary feeds that contain antibiotics. As part of Operation VETBIOTICS, total of 73 shops (veterinary clinics, pet shops) were inspected, 04 prosecutions were initiated for unaccounted sales of drugs including antibiotics & sale of adulterated veterinary feeds containing anitbitoics.
- Operation Soundarya: During the fiscal year 2024-25, cosmetics worth over Rs 7 lakh were seized for being manufactured and distributed without proper license or adherence to the standards prescribed under the Cosmetics Rules 2020. Cases have been registered against 33 establishments as part of the crackdown conducted during the first two phases of "Operation Soundarya".
- Operation Double Check: This initiative is being undertaken by the Drugs Control Department to ensure the quality of medicines supplied by discount pharmacies and unauthorized sales outlets at doctors' clinics As part of this operation, several medical shops have been instructed to remove discount boards Furthermore, all discount pharmacies must submit a list of medicines sold at reduced prices along with th corresponding details to the drug inspector's offices. Copies of this list should be displayed in medical shop for customer awareness.
- Operation Sareera Soundarya: This program aims to prevent the illegal supply of performance-enhancing drugs to customers at gyms. The officials seized a large stock of steroidal medicines from the house of a gym trainer in Thrissur.
