Sakhi Project for Prenatal and Postnatal Care Launched by Cooperative Vanithafed

The Sakhi (Midwife) project is being jointly implemented by the Cooperative Vanithafed and the National AYUSH Mission Kerala to provide Ayurveda-based scientific care for pregnant women and new mothers and to create employment opportunities for women.

As part of the project, the first batch of the certificate course, designed to provide practical and scientific training in prenatal and postnatal care has been successfully completed.

The main objective of the course is to equip women with the knowledge and skills to scientifically manage the health needs and difficulties faced by mothers during pregnancy and the postpartum period, based on Ayurvedic principles.

Women aged between 20 and 45 years who have passed the 10th standard are eligible to apply for the course. The training is provided free of cost with government support. Admission is given to candidates selected from primary groups that are members of the Cooperative Vanithafed. Those who successfully complete the course will be assigned jobs as required under the project.

The project also focuses on creating awareness about healthy lifestyle practices, nutritious diet, and simple exercises to be followed during pregnancy. The Sakhis will also help in implementing necessary healthcare measures to protect the health of both the mother and the baby after delivery.

Women interested in working as part of the Sakhi project can contact Cooperative Vanithafed. Phone: 0471-2330825, 0471-2331992.
