Through its Enforcement Wing, the department regulates the manufacture, storage, sale, and distribution of food, conducting regular surveillance and monitoring to detect potential risks and adulterants in food products.

The Analytical Wing operates laboratories in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode, equipped to test for pesticides, heavy metals, mycotoxins, fortificants, antibiotics, and conduct nutritional evaluations, among other parameters. These labs play a crucial role in ensuring food safety compliance across the state .
- Public Grievance Redressal System:
Citizens can report food safety concerns through a toll-free number (1800 425 1125), which is linked to the Government Contact Centre – Kerala, facilitating prompt action by field-level officers.
- Eat Right Initiatives:
Aligning with the national 'Eat Right India' movement, the department promotes healthy eating habits through various programs and campaigns, aiming to develop a "Food Safety Culture" among the citizens .
- Information on Unsafe/Banned Products:
The website provides updates on products deemed unsafe or banned, including proprietary foods, packaged drinking water, and various other categories, helping consumers make informed choices.
- Educational Resources and Forms:
A repository of downloadable forms, guidelines, and educational materials is available to assist FBOs and the public in understanding and complying with food safety standards.
