Special OPD for Non-Communicable Diseases: A Comprehensive Initiative by the Department of Swasthavritta
The Department of Swasthavritta has established a Special OPD for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), functioning from Monday to Saturday since January 2025, to provide continuous and comprehensive care with a focus on prevention and health promotion.
The OPD addresses major NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity through an integrated approach that includes clinical treatment, personalized diet counselling, exercise guidance, yoga therapy, stress management, and free medicines, ensuring accessibility for all sections of society.
From January 2025 to February 2026, a total of 2,158 patient visits were recorded. Patients undergo systematic screening and diagnosis using biochemical parameters, followed by individualized treatment and lifestyle modification. Diabetes and hypertension emerged as the most common conditions among attendees.
The initiative also supports academic and research activities by providing postgraduate scholars with valuable clinical exposure and opportunities for systematic documentation and analysis.
Overall, the Special OPD represents a holistic, patient-centered model that combines effective clinical care, preventive strategies, academic training, and equitable healthcare delivery.
