Surgical Oncologists At The Regional Cancer Centre performed Kerala's first Robotic Cancer Surgery in the Public Sector

The ‘Da Vinci Xi’ robotic surgical system, costing Rs. 30 crore commissioned using funds from the ‘Rebuild Kerala’ initiative, makes precision surgery accessible to patients from all socio-economic backgrounds. The robotic assisted surgery confers multiple benefits including minimally invasive approach, decreased patient pain, reduced intraoperative bleeding, and expedited recovery after surgery.

For the first time in Kerala, a robotic pediatric surgery for cancer was performed at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram. On March 2025, the Surgical Oncology Department at RCC carried out the procedure on a three-year-old boy from Nepal for treating neuroblastoma.
