Dr. P. Krishnakumar Memorial Auditorium: Strengthening Academic Exchange at IMHANS
The Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) has further strengthened its academic infrastructure with the establishment of the Dr. P. Krishnakumar Memorial Auditorium. Conceived as a dedicated space for scholarly engagement and professional collaboration, the auditorium addresses a long-standing institutional need for a well-equipped venue to host academic activities.
Prior to its construction, seminars, conferences, and training programmes were conducted using temporary arrangements, which often limited the scale, comfort, and technical quality of such events. In response, IMHANS developed a permanent auditorium facility designed to support a wide range of academic and professional gatherings in a more structured and efficient manner.
Built at an approximate cost of ₹1 crore, the auditorium has a seating capacity of around 500, enabling the institute to conduct large-scale conferences, workshops, continuing education programmes, and public awareness initiatives. The design emphasizes functionality and flexibility, allowing the space to be effectively utilized for diverse institutional requirements.
Equipped with modern amenities, the auditorium provides a conducive environment for lectures, interactive sessions, and interdisciplinary discussions. It significantly enhances the quality of academic exchange by offering improved acoustics, seating comfort, and technical support, thereby benefiting both organizers and participants.
The auditorium is named in honour of Dr. P. Krishnakumar, acknowledging his contributions and legacy. Beyond its infrastructural value, it represents IMHANS’ ongoing commitment to advancing mental health education, research, and community engagement through the development of sustainable and academically oriented facilities.
