Elevating AYUSH Healthcare: Kerala Achieves Excellence in Quality and Standards
The National AYUSH Mission (NAM) has made remarkable strides in strengthening AYUSH healthcare across Kerala through its Quality Accreditation Programme. This initiative focuses on enhancing the quality, safety, and infrastructure of AYUSH services, ensuring standardized care and continuous improvement across the State. By supporting institutions to achieve NABH Entry-Level Certification and the Kayakalp Award, the programme has set new benchmarks in patient-centric healthcare.
A total of 700 AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres (AHWCs) were selected for NABH Entry-Level Certification, implemented in a structured, phased approach to ensure smooth capacity building and adherence to quality standards.
Phase I – AHWC Accreditation: The first phase included 150 centres, all of which successfully achieved NABH Entry-Level Certification, demonstrating Kerala’s commitment to quality from the grassroots level.
Phase II – Expanding the Network: Building on Phase I’s success, 100 additional AHWCs were included in Phase II. All selected centres achieved NABH certification, institutionalising quality systems and ensuring consistent service delivery throughout the State.
AYUSH Hospital Certification Programme: Extending accreditation to secondary-level care, six AYUSH hospitals were guided to achieve NABH Entry-Level Certification, promoting evidence-based practice, patient safety, and organisational excellence.
Kayakalp Award Programme: Alongside accreditation, the Kayakalp initiative recognises public AYUSH institutions for excellence in cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control. A total of 132 institutions received the Kayakalp Award for maintaining exemplary standards.
Through these initiatives, Kerala has demonstrated its commitment to delivering safe, standardised, and patient-friendly AYUSH healthcare, fostering trust among the public and setting a model for continuous quality improvement across the nation.
