MEDISEP Extends Coverage to 13 Emergency Cases Treated at Other Hospitals
The government has allowed MEDISEP beneficiaries to receive treatment at non-empanelled hospitals in certain emergency situations and claim reimbursement under the scheme. The benefit will be available in 13 emergency cases, including road accidents, heart attacks, falls, snake bites, paralysis, assault-related injuries, animal attacks, drowning, poisoning, electric shock, sunstroke, burns and bites from unknown creatures.
The order also applies to beneficiaries who received emergency treatment at non-empanelled hospitals on or after February 1. Eligible persons can submit their claims through the MEDISEP portal within 30 days of discharge from the hospital.
After the application is submitted, eligible applicants will receive an email with details of the documents required and the address to which they should be sent. Once the documents are verified and approved, the insurance company will transfer the claim amount directly to the beneficiary's bank account.
If a claim is rejected, the applicant will be informed through email. The Finance (Health Insurance) Department has issued the order to implement the new provision.
