A health system consists of all organizations, people and actions whose primary intent is to promote, restore or maintain health (reference-1). The four key goals of a health system are improved health, responsiveness to people's expectations, Social and financial risk protection, and improved efficiency. The health system delivers preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative interventions through a combination of public health actions and the pyramid of health care facilities (primary, secondary and tertiary
care facilities) that deliver health care.

Star of the Month - April
Dr. Sreehari. M
Medical Officer, Karakulam PHC
In a remarkable chapter of Kerala’s public healthcare journey, Karakulam Family Health Centre and all its sub-centres have achieved a rare and inspiring milestone, securing the prestigious National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) accreditation together. At the heart of this collective success stands a dedicated leader: Dr. Sreehari, whose vision and perseverance turned an ambitious goal into reality.
From April 2025, Dr. Sreehari spearheaded a mission grounded in meticulous planning, teamwork, and a shared commitment to excellence. Bringing together health staff, ASHA workers, and public representatives, he ensured that everyone moved forward with clarity and purpose. Through continuous training, regular assessments, and timely interventions, every challenge was addressed with determination and precision.
What makes this achievement truly special is not just the recognition, but the journey behind it. Under Dr. Sreehari’s leadership, infrastructure and service delivery saw significant transformation, powered by the effective use of Panchayat funds, Finance Commission grants, and HMC resources. Monthly evaluations became stepping stones for improvement, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
Within a short span, the institutions successfully cleared district and state-level assessments and went on to complete the national-level evaluation in just three months, an extraordinary feat.
Today, Karakulam stands as a proud model for the entire state, proving that with the right leadership and collective effort, excellence is not just achievable, it is sustainable.
Dr. Sreehari’s journey shows how one dedicated person can inspire a whole system to improve and succeed.
