
The 14-storey building at RCC to begin operations by early February
20 December 2025The new multi-storey building constructed at a cost of ₹242.42 crore at the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) will begin operations by the first week of February. Construction activities are progressing at a rapid pace.
This building will be a major relief for RCC, which has been facing severe space constraints. The 14-storey structure has been built over an area of 30,680 square metres. The first and second basement levels are designated for parking. The ground floor will house a linear accelerator, brachytherapy unit and simulator machine. The first floor will include microbiology, blood bank, rehabilitation services and billing. The second floor will accommodate nuclear medicine, wards and a cafeteria. The third floor will have BMT and education facilities, while the fourth floor will house the leukemia and bone marrow transplantation unit. Wards and a nursing station will be set up on the fifth floor.
The sixth floor will have six modular, state-of-the-art operation theatres, MICU and CSSD. The seventh floor will include wards, suite rooms and a nursing station. The eighth floor will be a nurses’ hostel, the ninth floor a PG hostel, and the tenth floor will house a facility room, library and guest rooms. The eleventh floor is reserved for future operations, while the terrace will be equipped with MEP services and an operator room.
