A health system consists of all organizations, people and actions whose primary intent is to promote, restore or maintain health (reference-1). The four key goals of a health system are improved health, responsiveness to people's expectations, Social and financial risk protection, and improved efficiency. The health system delivers preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative interventions through a combination of public health actions and the pyramid of health care facilities (primary, secondary and tertiary
care facilities) that deliver health care.

A Life Saved on the Road: When a Doctor Turned a Passing Moment into a Miracle
Dr. S. Ajayakumar, a doctor at the Kulakkada Community Health Centre in Kollam, recently reminded everyone what true dedication to the medical profession looks like. His timely action saved the life of a young man who had collapsed after a road accident.
On the night of February 24, Dr. Ajayakumar was travelling to his wife's house. As his car passed the Enath–Kadambanad road near a bridge after Enath, he noticed a crowd gathered around a road accident. An autorickshaw and a bike had collided, leaving Sreejith (43), a native of Mannadi, seriously injured on the road.
Sreejith had fallen unconscious after the impact and had gone into cardiac arrest. People nearby were worried and unsure how to help.
Without hesitation, Dr. Ajayakumar stepped out of his car and rushed to the injured man. Introducing himself as a doctor, he quickly assessed the situation and immediately began CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). Despite his own physical limitations, he continued the life-saving procedure until Sreejith responded.
During the examination, the doctor also discovered that the victim’s leg was broken. With the help of local residents, he gathered sticks from nearby and carefully immobilised the injured leg before arranging for an ambulance. Sreejith was later admitted to Kottayam Medical College, where he recovered.
Dr. Ajayakumar currently serves at the Kulakkada Community Health Centre and is the Kollam District President of the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association. Fittingly, he is also leading the “Save Lives – One Student One Life Hridayapoorvam” project, which provides basic life-saving training to students across the district. His actions that night show that saving lives is not just a profession, it is a commitment that continues beyond hospital walls. Through his presence of mind and compassion, Dr. Ajayakumar turned a moment of tragedy into a story of hope.
