Kozhikode Medical College Registers Its Thirteenth Success in Non–Open-Heart Aortic Valve Replacement
18 December 2025A transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure, in which the aortic valve is replaced without opening the heart, was successfully completed at Kozhikode Medical College. This marks the thirteenth time that TAVR treatment has been performed at the medical college.
The procedure was carried out on a 69-year-old native of Kasaragod. The patient, who is affected by Parkinson’s disease, had previously undergone bypass surgery. He sought treatment at the medical college after developing severe narrowing of the aortic valve. As a result, a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was performed. The aortic valve was replaced using a 35 mm Myval valve, inserted through a blood vessel in the leg.
