Geriatric care
The geriatric care project launched by the Indian Systems of Medicine Department aims to increase the quality of life of the elderly and reduce the effects of morbidity in old age. Through the project, treatment facilities and care are provided for diseases of the elderly aged 60 years or more. Eligible patients will receive 28 days of free inpatient treatment, including medicines and therapy, and three months of follow-up treatment. This facility can be availed at selected Government Ayurveda Hospitals in all the districts of the state.
The project offers free IP treatment for up to 28 days followed by three months of follow-up medicines, awareness programs, and screening camps. The project was successful in delivering free medical, psycho-social, and rehabilitative care. With the Geriatric care project, the functional status of patients improved, and the medical care cost was also considerably reduced. There was better performance of instrumental or daily activities. The patients had greater autonomy and better control of certain pathology and physical limitations. They had improved life satisfaction, self-esteem, functional skills, activity participation, and social interaction with this project.
