The Kerala State Government, often hailed as a forerunner in all progressive measures in the country, has set up an Apex Trauma & Emergency Learning Centre in Thiruvananthapuram to bridge the gap in medical education. A modern, state-of-the-art facility, the Apex Trauma & Emergency Learning Centre (AT&ELC) is spread over 25000 square feet. The facility has well laid out training rooms, simulation labs and co-located debriefing rooms.. The AT&ELC has a lardge number of manikins of various types, besides medical equipment that is used to impart training. 

Advanced software such as de-briefing solutions and smart classroom technology are also incorporated to make the training as real as possible AT&ELC, a centre of excellence, has been set-up in collaboration between Government of Kerala, Tata Trusts, Care Institute of Health Sciences, Hyderabad, and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire, NHS Trust, UK, to deliver simulation based courses. The Centre is being run under the overall guidance of Directorate of Medical Education, Govt of Kerala.
