Urban Health and Wellness Centre; Strengthening comprehensive primary health care in urban areas
To enhance comprehensive primary health care in urban areas, the government has established Urban Health and Wellness Centres across the state, following the model of public health centres. As part of this initiative, 380 urban health and wellness centres have been established, with 194 already operational. Presently, the state hosts 104 urban primary health centres and two urban community health centres.
The Urban Public Health Centres will be established in 93 cities, featuring three under urban primary health centres and two in other areas. Each centre is allocated Rs 48 lakh for infrastructure development, transforming it into an urban people's health centre. The staff complement for each centre includes a doctor, two staff nurses, and a pharmacist, offering services from 2 pm to 8 pm six days a week, excluding public holidays.
All staff members of urban public health centres will actively participate in addressing health-related issues in their respective areas and coordinating public health activities. They will operate in accordance with instructions from the health department and municipal authorities. Furthermore, these centres will ensure continuous service provision during emergency health situations, such as communicable diseases and natural calamities.
