199 anti-rabies clinics in the state

March 27, 2025 Directorate of Health Services (DHS) 3 Comments

The Health department will launch 199 anti-rabies clinics in the State, especially in hospitals in the tribal and coastal belt, where the risks of animal bites are more and the access to immediate care after an animal bite is limited. The service of anti-rabies clinics will be made available everywhere in health institutions, including in difficult areas of the tribal areas. Earlier, 5 hospitals were upgraded as model anti-rabies clinics. The model anti-rabies clinics were started to bring treatment facilities for dog bite victims under a single umbrella. The clinic will have a place to wash the injured area with soap, a vaccination facility, and a place to care for the wound. Awareness and counseling will be provided to those coming for treatment. In order to provide first aid and follow-up treatment at these clinics, employees will be given expert training on animal bite management and services before and after rabies.

The clinics will be equipped with the facility to effectively wash any part of the body with running water for 15 minutes in case of a bite. Special facilities will be set up in hospitals for this purpose. Along with this, awareness posters related to this will also be displayed. The availability of vaccines and immunoglobulin will be demonstrated. Referral service will also be made available to those who need specialist treatment.
