Kalamassery Govt Medical College launches 17 cr worth of projects to ensure patient well-being

Ernakulam Kalamassery Government Medical College has unveiled 36 projects valued at Rs 17 crore to the public. These projects encompass a diverse range of improvements and additions to the hospital's infrastructure and services.

Among the notable enhancements are a new ramp connecting the main wards to the operation theater, a fully-equipped burns unit dedicated to the treatment of severe burn patients, and the establishment of a 24-hour preventive clinic for animal injuries. Additionally, a dedicated facility for staff child care, a waiting area for the gynecology department, and a mobile radiography unit have been introduced to enhance patient care and convenience.

The hospital has also undergone significant upgrades, including the renovation of lifts, the acquisition of a Phaco Emulsification Machine for cataract surgery, and the installation of a CM Machine for the Ortho Section Surgery Unit. A modernized CCTV system has been implemented to enhance security, and a Medical Education Unit & Skill Lab has been established to facilitate the training and development of medical professionals.

Further improvements include the refurbishment of wards, the addition of a women's restroom, and the introduction of a fully automatic Biochemistry Analyzer capable of conducting 1300 tests per hour. A Retinal Laser Machine, Blood Collection Unit, E-Health, and E-Office systems have been integrated to streamline hospital operations and patient care.

The hospital now boasts an Emergency Operation Theatre, a De-Addiction Unit, and a Post-operative Ward, all aimed at providing comprehensive medical services. Specialized equipment such as an Applanation Tonometer in the Ophthalmology Department and Dialysis Machines have been added to enhance medical diagnostics and treatment.

Other innovations include the KASP Pharmacy, token counters for efficient patient management, and the establishment of a center of excellence in pediatrics. A two-way communication system, digital payment system, and a water quality monitoring system have been implemented to improve overall hospital services. A phlebotomy team has been introduced as part of ongoing service improvements, and a telephone exchange and announcement system are now in place for effective communication. A metro bus service provides convenient transportation options for patients and visitors, and the Madath scheme has been initiated to provide treatment for indigent patients.

The hospital's commitment to accessibility and convenience is further demonstrated by the renovation of a ramp near the gynecology department. The Snehavasthram project and a 24-hour canteen and cafeteria ensure the well-being and comfort of patients and their families during their stay at the hospital.
