Kerala becomes first state to conduct organ transplant surgery at district-level government hospital
Kerala has become the first state in the country to successfully conduct organ transplant surgery at a district-level government hospital. A kidney transplant surgery was successfully performed at Ernakulam General Hospital, where a 50-year-old mother donated a kidney to her 28-year-old son. The surgery was completed successfully, marking a significant milestone. Ernakulam General Hospital recently obtained permission to perform kidney transplant surgeries, with registration and certification provided by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization. A substantial investment of half a crore rupees has been made in the super specialty block, where state-of-the-art systems have been established for kidney transplant surgeries.
