Manjeri Medical College Receives National Recognition with MusQan Certification for Maternal and Child Care
Malappuram Manjeri Government Medical College has received national recognition by earning the MusQan certification with a score of 93%. This makes it the third hospital in the state to receive this certification. Last year, Kozhikode Medical College IMCH and Wayanad Mananthavady Medical College also achieved MusQan certification.
The state is making big efforts to make hospitals more mother and child-friendly. The MusQan certification recognises the improvements made at Manjeri Medical College for maternal and child care. With an investment of ₹2.66 crore, the hospital has set up an 8-bed pediatric HDU, a 4-bed pediatric ICU, and a 30-bed pediatric ward with oxygen facilities, along with advanced medical equipment.
Manjeri Medical College is home to the district’s only government-run Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). To ensure quality care, 10 specially trained staff nurses have been appointed to this unit. These intensive care facilities have helped save many newborns, including premature babies.
The MusQan project is designed to improve the health and survival of newborns and children while ensuring high-quality, child-friendly care in public hospitals for children from birth to 12 years.
It focuses on all key areas of child growth and development, including physical, mental, and social well-being. The project also works to improve the quality of neonatal intensive care units, postnatal wards, pediatric outpatient departments, and other child healthcare services. MusQan National Certification is awarded after an internal assessment and state-level certification. Various efforts are being made to improve the quality of services in government hospitals.
So far, 200 hospitals in the state have received National Quality Accreditation (NQAS). Additionally, maternity hospitals are being upgraded to meet the National LaQshya standards, with 12 hospitals already certified. Work is ongoing to bring more hospitals up to national quality standards.
