Kerala Model for Comprehensive Health Services, Institutions Become Queer-Friendly
A new chapter in Kerala's healthcare sector is unfolding, with a strong emphasis on inclusion and equality. Queer-friendly healthcare institutions are being introduced in the state to ensure that the queer community and transgender individuals have seamless access to public healthcare services.
As the first step in this initiative, Ernakulam General Hospital has been designated a queer-friendly hospital. In the coming days, more healthcare institutions are expected to receive similar recognition as queer-friendly health centres.
The primary objective of this project is to provide healthcare services to all individuals without discrimination, to educate healthcare professionals, and to ensure comprehensive care that encompasses every section of society. By doing so, Kerala aims to strengthen its healthcare system while cultivating an environment of respect, dignity, and equality for all.
The launch of queer-friendly healthcare facilities highlights the state’s commitment to inclusivity, making sure all communities receive care and respect in the public health system.
