Kerala Expands E-Health System to 800 Institutions for Complete Health Sector Digitization
The state has significantly expanded its e-health system—an initiative aimed at fully digitizing health institutions—from 226 to 800 hospitals and health centers. Designed to streamline all aspects of patient care, from OP tickets to lab and test results, the system enhances treatment accuracy, improves service efficiency, and creates a more people-friendly experience in government health facilities. The ultimate goal is to implement e-health across all hospitals in Kerala.
So far, over 1.93 crore individuals have completed permanent Unique Health ID (UHID) registration, while more than 5.24 crore people have received treatment through temporary registration. The system has recorded 11.84 lakh inpatient admissions, over 2.78 crore pre-checkups, 6.85 crore diagnoses, 4.44 crore prescriptions, and 1.50 crore lab tests.
The e-health system also enables paperless hospital services and online OP ticket booking. Patients can secure their tickets in advance, avoiding long queues. For repeat consultations, advance tokens can be obtained directly from the hospital.
To use e-health services, individuals must first generate a 16-digit Personal Health Identification Number (PHID) by ehealth.kerala.gov.in. By entering their Aadhaar number and OTP, users can create a PHID and password, log in, and schedule hospital appointments by selecting the hospital, department, and preferred date.
